Portrait Lighting 101

As the holidays approach, many of us will be taking photos and videos. This is a nice instructional video on lighting techniques. I don't have a soft box, but I do try to move the flash off to an angle, or bounce it to avoid that washed out red-eyed shot.

Kodak Film had this message on their website : They say all good things in life come to an end. Today we announced that Kodak will retire KODACHROME Film, concluding its 74-year run. It was a difficult decision, given its rich history. At the end of the day, photographers have told us and showed us they've moved on to newer other Kodak films and/or digital. KODACHROME Film currently represents a fraction of one percent of our film sales. We at Kodak want to celebrate with you the rich history of this storied film. Feel free to share with us your fondest memories of Kodachrome. I have had much better luck with the longevity of slides that were taken with Kodachrome over the ones taken with Ektachrome. IMHO - Unflattering Photos of Obama's People

I spend a lot of time looking at photographs. The Times Magazine featured a series of photographs of "Obama's people" done by Nadav Kander who they described as "one of the more original and highly regarded portraitists at work just now". I guess I'm missing something, but I want to add my own unflattering captions to each mugshot photo. I miss Richard Avedon . Maybe I'm wrong, you be the judge: 2009 Inaugaration Gallery
